trimming the list fat

If you’re a long-time reader, you may have noticed a strategic shift I made last week:

Increasing my mailing frequency.

I went from mailing 3x per week to mailing 5x per week.

Why?

Because the more emails you send, the more money you make.

But there is a small wrinkle:

You’ve gotta solve for subscriber acquisition first.

I’m a believer in slowly ratcheting up your mailing frequency as your list grows…

Or, more accurately, once you’ve solved for subscriber acquisition.

And with my Tiny Book Funnel now adding 10-20+ buyers to the list each day…

I don’t have to worry about list growth anymore.

Not to mention I know the increased time cost of writing & sending more emails is going to generate an increasing ROI for me.

However:

A funny thing happened last week…

I got a LOT more unsubscribes than usual for the first few days.

And guess what?

I was happy about it.

(Truth is, I knew it was coming because I’ve seen this play out on other lists I’ve managed over the years.)

But nevertheless, here’s why it’s a good thing:

Not everybody on your list is actively tuned in.

And while it may pad your ego to see a higher subscriber count…

Fact is, the raw total doesn’t matter.

What matters is how many people are actively paying attention.

So when you think about it…

Mailing more often serves a dual purpose:

- It forces unengaged people to unsubscribe
- It strengthens the bond with those are engaged

Leaving you with a leaner and more toned list.

I share this so you’re prepared when the time comes for you to increase your mailing frequency.

Because it’s easy to panic when you see those unsubscribes go up.

But fear not — that’s the plan working, as intended.
