this 8-figure client shattered my dreams

Entrepreneurs are lionized in America.
People worship founders like Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, and Elon Musk.
But starting a company isn’t as glamorous as it looks.
When I discovered copywriting in 2016…
My plan was to master this skill then use it to build a big company like all the famous entrepreneurs I looked up to.
I pictured having tons of people working for me…
Generating millions of dollars in revenue…
And of course, soaking up the satisfaction of being the boss.
This was my fantasy.
So when I got a chance to work in-house for a longtime client of mine named Cole Gordon, I leapt at it.
You see, I’d watched him go from a one-man band to CEO of a 100-person company…
Doing over $30 million dollars a year…
And working with top tier clients like Tony Robbins, Grant Cardone, Frank Kern, and many others.
“What an insane opportunity,” I thought.
My chance to see how the 8-figure sausage is made.
Except, it wasn’t quite like I imagined.
- Packed calendars full of meetings
- Lots of fires needing to be put out
- DMs and Slack messages flying 24/7 (even on weekends)
Truth is, the year I spent working there shattered my dreams of building a big company.
And thank god for that…
Because it helped me uncover what my true values were.
I didn’t want to spend my days running meetings, putting out fires, or trying to get 100+ people rowing in the same direction.
In fact, I want the exact opposite:
A calendar full of white space for deep work & creative thinking…
The ability to enroll clients & customers without a sales team…
And ultimately, to hit 7-figures with as few employees as possible.
That’s it.
I just didn’t know it yet.
Anyway, moral of the story is:
Get clear on what a “perfect day” looks like for you.
That’s the easiest way to uncover the things you value most.
Then design your newsletter & business around them.
- If it’s meetings, sales calls, and running a big company, that’s great.
- If it’s cranking out content with just you and one assistant, that’s okay too.
Now, I can’t offer much help if you desire the former…
