ripped off

Got an unexpected text from a friend the other day:

As you can see…

Someone had ripped off my course and was trying to sell it on Instagram.

But while some people might’ve responded by freaking out…

All I could do was laugh.

Because this is something that’s (almost) entirely beyond my control.

And anyone who’s buying courses like mine from an IG pirate is not someone I want on my list anyway.

Which leads me to my point:

Not all subscribers are created equal.

Put another way:

The goal isn’t to acquire as many subscribers as possible…

… it’s to acquire as many quality subscribers as possible.

This is a reframe many publishers and list owners struggle with.

Especially when making the shift from value-driven to story-driven emails.

Because subscribers who’ve been conditioned with value-driven emails aren’t worth nearly as much as you think they are.

I basically had to reconstitute most of my list when I switched from delivering value to selling through storytelling.

And that’s one heck of a horse pill to swallow.

Yet it’s a classic example of a scarcity vs abundance mindset.

When you’re stuck in scarcity, every unsubscribe makes you wince.

But once you step into abundance, you realize that person is doing YOU a favor by filtering themselves out of your world…

Thereby making room for another who’s a perfect fit.

Same thing goes with clients and customers.

There are sooooooooo many more subscribers, clients, and customers out there than you need to achieve your income goals and design the business of your dreams.

All it takes is a teeny tiny sliver of what’s out there.

Something to think about :)
