Why I published a 7,000+ word copywriting guide this morning

Which one is more important in business?

- Doing what works
- Doing what you’re good at

This is a trick question, of course.

You should do both whenever possible.

There’s a 3rd option most creators don’t consider though:

- Doing what others can’t

I’ve been guilty of this in the past.

Obsessing over what moves the needle for other people and going head-to-head with them is tempting.

But it can lead you astray…

Forcing you to ignore the built-in advantages you have to compete on.

For example:

At the end of 2023, I created an email mini-course for new subscribers to articulate my evolving worldview on how to use content & copywriting to build a creator business.

There is much more happening than meets the eye in this series…

And the leading indicators tell me I’ve hit the mark.

I expect this to have major downstream effects on the rest of my business.

Another example:

This morning, I published a free 7,000+ word copywriting guide on LinkedIn.

No opt-in.

My plan is to publish 1x long-form content piece per month for the rest of the year.

Now, they won’t all be twice as long as the Magna Carta…

But my point is:

Most other people simply can’t (or won’t) copy me.

That’s because it’s taken me 8 years to cultivate the skills & knowledge I have.

I’ve got a few other tricks up my sleeve…

And it’s high time I put more of them to work in the battle for attention.

So, let this be a reminder to both of us:

Inventory all your strengths before you set foot in the arena.

And don’t let your biggest assets sit idle on the shelf.
