I find professional athletes fascinating.

Anyone who operates at the extreme end of the spectrum usually has insight to share.

Especially those who reach the top of the mountain.

Which is why I enjoyed watching the new Aaron Rodgers documentary on Netflix.

Now, I’m not much of a football guy…

And in case you’re not either:

Aaron Rodgers is a quarterback who played most of his career for the Green Bay Packers.

He’s widely regarded as one of the best of all time.

Anyway, one thing that struck me was how thoughtful and introspective he is.

For example:

After carrying his team to a Super Bowl win in 2010 and winning the MVP trophy for himself…

He admitted he felt empty inside.

Even wondered whether he’d aimed himself at the wrong goal in life.

Isn’t that crazy?

Imagine growing up wanting to become a professional football player…

Where the odds of making it to the NFL are something like 0.023%…

Actually making good on it…

Then going to defy the odds again and become one of only 34 starting quarterbacks in the sport’s history to win the championship…

… yet not feeling any different afterward.

There’s an important lesson in there…

One that also applies to your pursuit of Newsletter Freedom…

Which is:

Achievements are fleeting.

Even the big, hairy, audacious ones like building a profitable newsletter…

Being able to quit your 9 to 5 job…

Provide for your friends & family…

And design a lifestyle with total time, location, and financial flexibility.

Now, that’s not to say you still shouldn’t pursue these goals…

You absolutely should.

But don’t expect winning the Newsletter Super Bowl to “complete” you on the inside.

That’s something only you can do.

And while the fruits of your hard work may not heal all old wounds…

They sure do help you avoid a lot of new ones.

In fact, I’d argue they act as fertile ground in which to plant the seeds of future happiness.
