If you’re looking to start & grow a profitable email newsletter…

There are a few non-negotiables you need to have:

- Profitable niche
- Newsletter CRM
- Engaged audience
- A love of writing
- Etc etc

But there’s another one most people don’t think of:

Main Character Energy.

In other words…

You need ironclad conviction that what you have to say is worth paying attention to.

Why do I bring this up?

Because I’ve noticed a funny paradox at play in life…

Where, internally, people see themselves as the hero of their own life story…

(referred to as “Narrative Identity”)

And yet, outwardly, they minimize themselves and their beliefs & opinions to avoid offending anyone else.

Sound familiar?

I’m just as guilty of this as you probably are.

But coming back to building a profitable email newsletter…

The reason this matters is because no matter how much effort you put into the content you create…

You’re still gonna get messages like this:

Shout out to my #1 fan Ricky P 😂

Doesn’t matter who you’re writing to…

Or what you’re writing about.

It just comes with the territory.

Now, if you don’t feel like you’ve got that Main Character Energy…

If the idea of writing something that other people hate…

Or being told to F off by a random stranger who joined your newsletter at gunpoint of their own free will makes you deeply uncomfortable…

I’ve got good news:

The best way to cultivate Main Character Energy is to start publishing an email newsletter.

You’ve gotta put your ideas out into the world…

And watch what bounces back to you.

Because what I’ve observed is…

For every salty subscriber on my list who likes to whine and complain…

There are many more who resonate with what I have to say.

Who enjoy reading the newsletters I write…

And taking action on the advice I give.

So let that be today’s lesson:

I’m not for everyone.

Neither are you.

And as inboxes everywhere become more crowded…

I encourage you to embrace it.
