If you're looking to grow your email newsletter...

The most important thing isn't what happens before someone joins.

It's after.

Here's why:

Every acquisition channel has a cost.

- With organic traffic, it's time and energy
- With paid traffic, it's money

And as a newsletter publisher...

You need to achieve a return on that investment.

Ideally, ASAP.

Because the shorter your "payback period" on new subscribers is...

The more resources you have to allocate.

Otherwise, you're stuck sinking valuable time, energy, and money into getting new subscribers and praying it'll pay off somewhere down the line.

But hope is not a strategy.

(This is where most publishers I talk to get stuck.)

So what's the answer?

Installing a "Thank You Page" offer into your newsletter funnel.

This is typically a $7-$97 offer all new subscribers see immediately after joining your newsletter.

Now, most won't buy it...

And that's totally fine.

It's not meant to be a hardcore sales pitch.

However, a small percentage will buy it.

Which means...

- If you're using organic traffic, these sales are pure profit
- If you're using paid traffic, these help to liquidate your ad costs

Either way, you've compressed your payback period to basically zero.

Case in point:

I installed a Thank You Page offer into my newsletter funnel earlier this summer.

It wasn't a home run right away.

But I've spent the last few months optimizing it...

And now, the sales cover 100% of my ad costs.

So I can start scaling up my ads with confidence...

Because I know exactly when and how I'll recoup those costs.

And anything else I sell in the newsletter itself is profit.

Does this make sense?

I hope so.

It's a crucial lesson that applies no matter what niche you're in or what type of newsletter you operate.

In fact, there's another layer I've yet to unpack.
