bad launch timing

I made a pact with myself at the beginning of this year.

The goal:

Publish something on Amazon.

Now, because I’ve never published anything before and also to lower the bar as much as possible…

I didn’t impose any constraints on myself beyond that.

It could be fiction or nonfiction.

A short story or a full length book.

Frankly, it was as much about going through the motions for the first time…

(so I’d be better prepared for subsequent releases)

… as it was about the achievement itself.

Ultimately, I settled on publishing my Email Storyselling Playbook after a successful launch to my list earlier this year.

Now, I’m not exactly expecting it to be the next Atomic Habits…

But it’ll serve as a nice authority builder, I wager…

Plus I’m quite proud of how it turned out.

Anyway, while I’ve been busy scratching out a few new bonus chapters for the Amazon release…

And boning up on the ins and outs of successful self-publishing…

The end of the year has quietly snuck up on me.

So I’m faced with a difficult decision:

Race to get it out before the ball drops in Times Square so I can meet my target…

Which would mean stepping on the gas and working even MORE over the holidays…

Or admit defeat and push it off to 2025…

Which would mean missing my target but being able to relax & recharge over the coming weeks…

And enjoy a few extra rum n’ eggnogs with the fam.

Full disclaimer:

For Old Jim, this would’ve been a no brainer.

I would’ve doubled down without thinking twice.

But this time, instead of lunging headfirst into a stressful holiday work sprint…

I chose Option B.

I’m punting the release til late January.

This is because my dream life is defined more by what I say ‘no’ to…

Then what I say ‘yes’ to.

Boundaries, not burnout.

And since I have predictable systems in place for adding subscribers & buyers to my list every day…

Then turning them into True Fans who buy my other offers…

It’s a luxury I can now afford.

And as 2024 comes to a close, I encourage you to think about the boundaries that define YOUR dream life.

What are you saying ‘no’ to?

Or what do you wish you could say ‘no’ to?

I’ve found getting clear on this to be a much more helpful starting point than focusing on what you do want.

Happy Wednesday 💪

P.S:

The Email Storyselling Playbook won’t be live on Amazon till late January.
