antisocial list building

True story:
I did a consulting call with a 7-figure business owner in the publishing space the other day.
This person’s built a very lucrative business on the back of warm traffic & referrals…
But he wants to explore running paid ads to cold traffic in 2025.
Now, I’m a huge fan of this approach…
For obvious reasons:
Ads give you a predictable flow of traffic because they run 24/7…
They’re easy to scale because you’re paying for reach…
You can split-test different offers, hooks & messaging to find out which ones resonate most with your market…
And, most importantly:
You can get leads and customers without posting on social media.
(if you don’t want to, that is)
It’s the ideal list building approach for anyone who’s introverted or antisocial.
I know I’d rather run with scissors across a field of broken glass than spend all day mainlining motivational mumbo jumbo directly into my brain.
However:
There is a catch…
If you want to sell online courses, coaching & consulting, community, or any other type of high-ticket offer direct to cold traffic…
You need a “unique mechanism.”
Something this person I consulted for was missing.
Think of your mechanism as the unique strategy or method you’ve developed to help people get results.
(Like Email Storyselling, in my case.)
It simultaneously answers two questions:
- Why your clients & customers have failed in the past, and…
- Why they’ll succeed this time
The mechanism is the missing link.
It shifts the pressure to succeed away from the audience…
Because it’s no longer about them or their skills and abilities…
… it’s simply about implementing the mechanism.
Following the step-by-step approach.
Anyhow, going deeper on this crucial concept is beyond the scope of this email.
But if you like the idea of building your list with leads and buyers without having to scream on social media like the rest of the masses..
And you haven’t yet figured out your unique mechanism…
Give this some thought.
It’s a puzzle piece that will unlock rapid growth when you get it right.

P.S:
I’m in Cancun this week for a little R&R:

The weather in Toronto has been miserable, as usual for this time of year.
That’s why my wife and I decided to make this a yearly ritual starting in 2022.
This is what freedom looks like:
Designing your life intentionally around the values that matter to you.
Do you have any similar examples in your life? Or ones you’re looking forward to implementing?
Hit reply and lmk :)
