3 reasons why I don’t exclude customers from newsletter sends

Time for a little Q&A.

On Monday, Kevin replied to my email with this:

FYI - this was an email where I plugged my Email Storyselling Playbook at the end.

(A product he already owns.)

Now, in my experience, these types of questions are like cockroaches…

If one person took the time to write in about it, there’s probably more who didn’t… scurrying around in confusion under the floor tiles.

So, I thought this a fine opportunity to share my 100 IQ strategy with you.

Here goes:

***

1) People subscribe & buy with different emails

They use a burner address to join your list.

Then use their real or work email to buy your product.

(I know, because I do it all the time lol)

So your ability to actually exclude all those who’ve bought is limited, at best.

2) Segmenting & customizing CTAs would add complexity

Kevin suggested I segment people based on what they’ve purchased and customize the CTA for each group.

This is pretty standard marketing advice.

I’m sure it works.

But it would complicate my business in exchange for marginal returns.

3) Every email is a chance to learn

The offer I made at the end was only 80 words (or 18%) out of a total of 444 words.

So while it may have been a tad redundant for existing customers…

There was plenty more meat on the bone for discerning readers to savor.

Such as:

- What type of subject line I used
- How I set up & told the story
- What the lesson was
- The value statement I used to polarize
- How I connected it to the offer
- Etc etc

And that’s the bottom line:

If you’re looking to master any style of writing — be it Email Storyselling or composing complaint letters in Haiku — you have to study it on a regular basis.

This means reading good examples + breaking them down…

So you can learn to quickly identify all the constituent parts.

Something I wager my customer base appreciates more than anyone.

Anyway, there you have it.

Hopefully that sheds some more light on how things work here in the Newsletter Freedomverse.

Of course, if this isn’t your cup of Earl Grey…

You don’t have to drink it.

There’s an unsubscribe link at the bottom of every email.

But if my simple and profit-centric methods do appeal to you…

Then all you have to do is grab a copy of my Email Storyselling Crash Course below.

No fluff, filler, or meaningless theory.
